Gorgeous Girls In Supply Chain: Rebecca Farrall

Welcome to our series celebrating the incredible women in Supply Chain and Logistics! In a traditionally male-dominated field, it's important to shine a light on the inspiring women who are making a significant impact. Through a mix of insightful and fun questions, we’ll explore their journeys, challenges, and successes. While we acknowledge the contributions of everyone in this industry, this series aims to elevate the voices and stories of women who often get missed. Rebecca Farrall is our next feature.

Some people say your name in rooms you're not in and make sure to introduce you to everyone they know in rooms you are in, that's a special breed, and that's Rebecca. We only met the week of Breakbulk Europe, but everywhere we went she was introducing me around and making sure I felt included. I barely knew her and she already had my confused face memorized, leaning over to quickly explain whatever I clearly wasn't following.

She's worked on ships and dreams of being a ship owner, and she believes ships should be built in collaboration with the seafarers who actually live on them. As she puts it, you wouldn't build someone a house without asking what they need in it. She's everything I love about women in this industry, supportive, ambitious, empathetic, and determined to change the systems we've all worked within for far too long. I'm so happy to call her my newest freight bestie.

  1. What is your current role and company?

  2. How did you end up in the world of supply chain?

    • I went on a school trip aboard a Clyde fleet tender, in Scotland. One of the deckhands suggested I apply for a cadetship....the rest is history!

  3. What is your favourite part of your work day?

    • Networking / Industry events- it fuels my fire. I LOVE to grow new business or teach junior staff how to go after new business.

  4. What is the least favourite part of your work day?

    • Dealing with emails - I would much rather pick up the phone, or meet face to face.

  5. What is a systemic issue in your part of the supply chain that concerns you currently?

    • It’s always a chicken and the egg scenario - the system allows owners/operators/supplier etc to shirk responsibility from doing the right thing. Things are classed as nice to haves, if they aren't regulatory.

  6. How would you address it if you had the power, money, or influence?

    • Reduce the time between acceptance and adoption - policies and regulations should meet industry need at the time not 5 years later.

  7. What is one piece of advice you have for young women entering your field?

    • Find someone you click with and look up too - male or female - stick with them, even if they are tough on you at times. Because that difficult moment will support the future you.

  8. What are your top 3 podcasts? (do not have to be industry related)

    • My dirty secret - I haven't found one that keeps my attention to have a favourite....its likely the one that we haven't made yet (hint hint).

  9. Who are your top 5 women in supply chain to follow on LinkedIn?

  10. How do you deal with creeps you encounter in your work day?

    • Probably not polite conversation (lol)

  11. What is your favourite way to unwind?

    • Riding my horse!

  12. What have you recently changed your mind about?

    • What's important to me and my values.

  13. Must haves to get you thru the day?

    • My horse

    • Curly hair products

    • Coffee

    • A kiss from Rich (husband)

    • A text from my daughter
