Through a mix of insightful and fun questions, we’ll explore their journeys, challenges, and successes. While we acknowledge the contributions of everyone in this industry, this series aims to elevate the voices and stories of women who often get missed. Danielle Spinelli is our next feature.
DANIELLE SPINELLI
Danielle and I finally met in person last night, and somehow she managed to be exactly what I expected and even better. She’s fun, quick-witted, charming, and very clearly someone who knows her what she’s talking about.
Danielle is deeply passionate about this industry, especially when it comes to cargo theft. Not in a “fear-mongering LinkedIn post” way, but in a practical, roll-up-your-sleeves way. She spends her time helping people understand why cargo theft actually happens, what proactive steps can reduce risk, and what to do when the worst-case scenario hits. Education, transparency, and real-world solutions are her thing. When she’s not pounding Redbulls and tracking down missing freight, she’s at home with her kids, snacks within reach, rotating between a murder documentary or a romcom, depending on the vibe that day. Smart, grounded, and quietly badass, Danielle is exactly the kind of woman this industry is better for having.

How did you end up in the world of supply chain?
Had a friend say, want to earn great money? Come join this brokerage! 10+ years later I still love the industry and can't imagine ever leaving!
What is your favourite part of your work day?
I love educating on the biggest problem we are facing which is Cargo Theft. I educate on ways to prevent, protect and if it does happen how to try and recover.
What is the least favourite part of your work day?
Honestly, I love what I do. There isn't a part of my day that I would change.
What is a systemic issue in your part of the supply chain that concerns you currently?
Cargo theft is a systemic issue that concerns me because it’s not just a one-off problem. It’s enabled by gaps across the supply chain. Fragmented systems, inconsistent carrier vetting, limited real-time visibility, and the rise in digital load fraud all create opportunities for organized theft. Because those weaknesses exist at multiple points, the risk isn’t isolated to one shipment or one party—it affects the entire network.
How would you address it if you had the power, money, or influence?
If I had the power, money, or influence, I would focus on education across the supply chain. Many of the risks around cargo theft persist because brokers, carriers, and shippers don’t always have consistent training on fraud indicators, evolving theft tactics, or best practices for verification and visibility. Investing in standardized education, ongoing training, and information-sharing would help teams recognize red flags earlier, follow stronger processes, and respond more effectively. Education creates a more resilient network because it reduces preventable mistakes and closes gaps before they can be exploited.
What is one piece of advice you have for young women entering your field?
Don’t get stuck in a men-versus-women mindset. Learn the industry, ask questions, build relationships, and trust your voice. Your work and consistency will speak louder than anything else.

Who are your top 5 women in supply chain to follow on LinkedIn?
How do you deal with creeps you encounter in your work day?
Boy oh boy does this happen more often than I'd like to admit. Especially when it comes to conferences. I like to always have someone with me especially a trusted male friend. If that's not an option, I am blunt enough and not scared to hurt their feelings by saying something and telling others of unwanted behavior.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
Vegging out with popcorn and Sour Patch Kids, rotating between murder documentaries, chick flicks, or a new show, and letting my kiddos join me to spill all the tea from their lives.
What have you recently changed your mind about?
I have recently dug deep into the effects of nuturing children and the impact that can have on ADD/ADHD. My youngest has ADD and I have ADHD so it's very interesting how nuture from parents (mainly moms) can have such an impact. What I've changed my mind on is previously I was a lot more hands off, you're good, learn for yourself and after learning more about this I've become more how can I help, let me show you, let's work on this together. Not sure if it will help anything but it's been interesting seeing the difference in my youngest and how he's navigating through his world.
