Gorgeous Girls In Supply Chain: Abby Hamm

Welcome to our series celebrating the incredible women in Supply Chain and Logistics! In a traditionally male-dominated field, it's important to shine a light on the inspiring women who are making a significant impact. Through a mix of insightful and fun questions, we’ll explore their journeys, challenges, and successes. While we acknowledge the contributions of everyone in this industry, this series aims to elevate the voices and stories of women who often get missed. Abby Hamm is our next feature.

ABBY HAMM

Abby Hamm didn’t just fall into logistics, she climbed, hustled, and bossed her way up. From an entry-level export gig in Savannah to VP of Sales at Covenant Logistics, she’s proof that hard work and a whole lot of heart get you places. Abby leads with integrity, builds with transparency, and mentors like a woman on a mission (because she is). She’s on the board of Women In Trucking, racks up industry awards, and still finds time for her family, fitness, and a solid cup of coffee (or five). Smart, strong, and straight-talking, Abby is the kind of leader people remember. It is a privilege to have her in my network and featured on Ship Happens.

  1. What is your current role and company?

  2. How did you end up in the world of supply chain?

    • I fell into supply chain. After college I moved to Savannah, GA and found myself in need of a job. I saw an add in the newspaper for an entry level export role at a locally owned freight forwarder.... the rest is history (almost 20 years later).

  3. What is your favourite part of your work day?

    • I have a heart for my people. Nothing gives me more gratitude for my role or makes me happier than when I get the opportunity to positively impact their day or their goals.

  4. What is the least favourite part of your work day?

    • I lead a sales team. I don't like to see my team lose an opportunity or hear the word no from a key prospect!

  5. What is a systemic issue in your part of the supply chain that concerns you currently?

    • I think we can all agree since onset of COVID, supply chain fraud has been a growing concern. The complexity and multiple tiers of suppliers and intermediaries create vulnerabilities that people have found a way to exploit.

  6. How would you address it if you had the power, money, or influence?

    • If I had a foolproof solution, I'd probably be answering this from my yacht 😊. That said, who you choose to partner with makes a real difference. Integrity and transparency in how you and your partners conduct business goes a long way in protecting your supply chain.

  7. What is one piece of advice you have for young women entering your field?

    • Never diminish your value to make others comfortable. Stand confidently in your abilities, advocate for your talent and work. Championing for your contributions is not arrogance; it’s necessary because there is no guarantee someone else is doing it on your behalf.

  8. What are your top 3 podcasts? (do not have to be industry related)

  9. Who are your top 5 women in supply chain to follow on LinkedIn?

  10. How do you deal with creeps you encounter in your work day?

    • The best advice I can give to any woman is to set boundaries early and often.

  11. What is your favourite way to unwind?

    • After a stressful day it is straight to the gym or family time.

  12. What have you recently changed your mind about?

    • Saying yes to networking events. It is hard to make time as a working Mom with 3 children for events outside of work hours, but I have decided to say yes more.

  13. Must haves to get you thru the day?

    • coffee

    • coffee

    • coffee

    • work-out

    • quiet time (usually in the morning with coffee)
